Fostering Education

Leadership programs for Fosters getting to & through college

The Fostering Higher Education Act removes a huge barrier for Fosters going to and through college starting fall 2022.

But we know funding is not the only barrier Fosters face in higher education. Based on broad visions from 2020 Foster Ed leaders, we launched new college and high school programs in Fall 2021.

I am excited to work with Fosters to figure out how we can make education pathways easier to navigate. I know that my college experience was difficult, as a Foster and homeless young person, and we want to learn how to open up more options to Fosters, including 2-year, 4-year, and technical and training programs. Fosters are already accomplishing so much on their own, and I am looking forward to learning how we can ease some of their responsibilities and create meaningful connections with peers who share their experiences.

We've been busy spreading the word about the Fostering Independence Grants! Hannah was featured in an AchieveTwinCities Ed Talk and an interview with the Star Tribune, and Foster leaders Ryn and Edson were on Fox 9 discussing the grants, which you can check out below! Most recently, four Foster leaders were featured in the Imprint and shared their educational journeys—past challenges and the new opportunities that FIG provides!
