A new chapter

I really cannot believe it has been five years since I founded Foster Advocates. It feels surreal that what started with just me is now a statewide movement. My goal then was to pass a small bill and organize some like-minded Fosters.  We did that and so much more –we have shifted the child welfare landscape! We’ve created and empowered a network of Fosters to advocate for priorities that they believe will improve their lives. I firmly believe that we are now at a tipping point for systems transformation, and I am beyond excited for what that holds. While there is much still to do, at this moment, I want to show gratitude for what has been done and for all of those who helped us get here.

That is why we are throwing a birthday party to celebrate–and you are invited! Look for official event information on our socials, but until then, be sure to save the date for June 22nd from 6-8pm. As Foster Advocates starts a new chapter, we look forward to thanking you all for your support and celebrating our accomplishments together!

In addition to our 5-year milestone, we have some big news to share with you. I will be stepping down as the Executive Director of Foster Advocates, and my last day will be June 30th. I know this might come as a surprise, and I get it –things are going so well.

We’ve grown to a team of seven, reached a million in revenue for the first time, and are at the cusp of passing some big bills, but that is exactly why I am leaving. We are in a Foster Rights Movement and that is bigger than one person. I have seen too often organizational leaders step down only when things are not awesome. In contemplating this decision, I knew that when I decided to make way for new leadership, I would do so when the organization was in the best situation for a new leader to succeed, and we are.

While I don’t quite yet know what the future has in store for me, what I can say with full confidence is that I am thrilled for the direction that our new leader will take Foster Advocates in, but more on her announcement to come! I will forever stay committed to our shared fight for justice for Fosters in Minnesota, and I look forward to doing it in a different capacity, not as Executive Director, but as Foster Advocates' biggest fan.

I am so proud of what we’ve built. Founding and leading Foster Advocates has been the honor of my lifetime. Thank you for following along, supporting us, and being part of our village.

In Infinite Hope & Solidarity,
Hoang
